It's funny the way siblings grow into their roles. Odd ways of exerting their authority as the oldest, as the youngest, vying to prove to Mom and Dad who is the smartest, the cutest, the most deserving of the electronic toy Jeep (never did get one of those!). It is for all these reasons that I get such a hoot out of photographing kids. What you find is that, despite all the tantrums and the teasing, at the root of this is one of the most purest forms of love. It is innocent and unflinching. A few weeks ago, I met up with a family we've been photographing for quite some time through our lifestyle work, TreeSwing. It had always been the three of them- Mom, Dad and little Andrew. Then came Evan. He is just over one week old in these photos - making Andrew one week fresh into his role as big brother. And what a story he told! At first, I spent some time with Evan and his new proud parents...
Andrew was quite fascinated, very much in love with little Evan...so stinkin' cute.
But Andrew soon caught on to where this new shared attention gig would lead...
And he was not having it...(yes, I was shut out!...love it!)
Things shaped up once Andrew realized he'd have many things to teach this little guy.
Those two will have a long and adventurous road ahead together and I'm so excited to see them change and grow into their roles and find out that siblings aren't so bad after all. Feeling grateful today for my sisters! (despite all the torment we put eachother through). Happy Saturday! Katie |
