And now...a big brother.
Saturday, March 29, 2008

It's funny the way siblings grow into their roles. Odd ways of exerting their authority as the oldest, as the youngest, vying to prove to Mom and Dad who is the smartest, the cutest, the most deserving of the electronic toy Jeep (never did get one of those!).  It is for all these reasons that I get such a hoot out of photographing kids. What you find is that, despite all the tantrums and the teasing, at the root of this is one of the most purest forms of love. It is innocent and unflinching.

A few weeks ago, I met up with a family we've been photographing for quite some time through our lifestyle work, TreeSwing. It had always been the three of them- Mom, Dad and little Andrew. Then came Evan. He is just over one week old in these photos - making Andrew one week fresh into his role as big brother.  And what a story he told!

At first, I spent some time with Evan and his new proud parents...

Andrew was quite fascinated, very much in love with little Evan...so stinkin' cute.

But Andrew soon caught on to where this new shared attention gig would lead...

And he was not having it...(yes, I was shut out!...love it!)

Things shaped up once Andrew realized he'd have many things to teach this little guy.

Those two will have a long and adventurous road ahead together and I'm so excited to see them change and grow into their roles and find out that siblings aren't so bad after all. Feeling grateful today for my sisters! (despite all the torment we put eachother through).

Happy Saturday!

Katie

LISA & CURT - ENGAGEMENT
Thursday, March 20, 2008

Hi all!

Well, we arrived back late last night from an incredible time at WPPI - an amazing conference for photographers.  It was our first time to Vegas and both Katie and I loved our time there.  We are so grateful to have met so many amazing photographers and can't wait for next year!  We picked up a ton of great new ideas and fell IN LOVE with some new products that we will be implementing for our cients in the coming months!

On to photos...Lisa and Curt came to visit last week from Florida to do a bit of wedding planning and their engagement photos.  They are such a great couple and will be getting married this July in Breckenridge.  I love doing these engagment sessions because it gives us such a great opportunity to get to know our clients on a more personal level as well as to see how to approach their wedding day and how they interact with the camera...

Lisa had called me the week before their session to see what she should wear - and I said to just to have fun.  She got some incredible clothes from Anthropologie and we had a blast shooting these.  Being an interior designer, she definitely has style down! Both Curt and Lisa are super kind and fun - and I loved how they interacted together.

A really neat lady who owns RED DOOR, a shop close to our studio, let us borrow her bike...I love how old it is!

At first, the clouds didn't come out at all...and then the light decided to come out and it made for some incredible weather!

And then sun shined...this is when I knew that spring was close - and soon it will be GREEN!!

My personal favorite from the shoot...

Congrats Lisa and Curt!

Much love,

Jenna

JENN & OWEN'S ENGAGEMENT SESSION
Wednesday, March 12, 2008

Last night, I headed up with Jenn & Owen to Gold Hill for some mountain fun. I just love this little tucked-away mountain town (if you can call it that!)...it has all the signs of a life well-lived.  charming school houses, sweeping skies, and of course, a general store. Jenna and Matt used to live here a few summers back so it was very reminiscent to make it back and see it in a different season.

Jenn and Owen are so happy together - Nothing says that more than catching them in mid-laugh!

the very quiet streets...

This is "town center" up in Gold Hill...don't ya love it?!

So sweet together...

There are all sorts of old trucks and cars around Gold Hill...

Jenn and Owen will be getting married this August in Boulder at the Sunrise Amphitheater (they had to camp out to get the date they wanted...true signs of troopers!).  I can't wait to see all the energy of their big day!

much love,

Katie
