We are a happy crew hear today at Jenna Walker Photographers with news of being selected for the second year in a row as an Editor's Choice for The Knot's Best of Weddings 2009.

A couple of weeks ago Katie made a trip to NYC to do Ashley & Jim's engagement session and we decided it would be fun to do a little of our own HGTV "While You Were Out" surprise for Katie...we have been meaning to finish a side room in our studio for quite some time - but being busy with other things always seemed to take precedent and we never got around to finishing either of our offices.  So Matt and I decided that we would do a two day makeover for a great new office for the sister I love so much!  

Here is what we started with:

Spring is in the air! And with that, comes a certain oh-so-luminous energy everywhere. Chelsea & Russell are no exception - there is no denying that these two belong together. They are about the sweetest a couple can come and I just find myself over and over, feeling so grateful for all of our clients - Chelsea & Russell included - you are couples who live out loud, who seek out the marrow of life and of love - and for that we couldn't thank you more!

I had a blast shooting Chelsea & Russell's engagement session (and hunting down what little snow is left in the front range of Colorado!). Thanks you two - I can't wait for your wedding this June!

I love a good story. And the story of how Jim and Ashley ended up together is one for the books. Their first date or several dates didn't turn into much. Time passed. They went their separate ways. It wasn't until Ashley was looking into MBA programs that they reconnected. Ignoring the possibilities that it might be awkward, Ashley called Jim about the program he was enrolled in. Turns out, Ashley didn't take his lead with his MBA program - but instead found a best friend and future husband in Jim. They couldn't be more right for each other.

I met up with Ashley and Jim this weekend in NYC. They are both brilliant - smart yes, but vibrant at the same time. Jim lives and works in the city and Ashley commutes from UPenn where she attends the Wharton School. As a former Miss South Carolina, Ashley is anything but shy with getting her picture taken. Yet with all of those photos, what she really wanted was something that said "This is us." Photos from her wedding that capture the moments she knows not of, to capture the story. They will be getting married this September off the coast of Charleston.

There is no way to truly capture the type of grace that these two exude - it is both bold and warm, classic yet playful - and so while there is no substitute for that, here are but a few glimpses into details that make up the fabric their togetherness. 

Who says you can't be playful at the library? Here at the New York Public Library in Bryant Park.  

I love the anonymity of New York.  Here they are enjoying a street performance. 

They live in the West Village so we made a stop that way - I love all the character of this neighborhood and it was important to capture them in their element. Oddly enough, we stumbled into some paparazzi hunting down Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick just before this shot was taken. So we gave Ashley & Jim their own moment of dancing in the streets!

I love the subtle joy here - Jim is so sweet to her and really brings out her best.

New York is iconic. Call it cliche. Call it iconic. I'll go with classic. 

Ashley & Jim - thank you so much for being the most gracious of hosts. I so enjoyed getting to know you and truly look forward to capturing what will be a bright and beautiful day in your family's legacy. See you in September!
