NICK & ELIZABETH's WEDDING
Thursday, June 26, 2008

A couple of weeks ago, Matt and I had the opportunity to travel to Bay City, Michigan to photograph Nick and Elizabeth's wedding.  They contacted us about 18 months ago - and as soon as I found out that they both graduated from the University of Wisconsin (my alma mater) - I couldn't wait to meet them!  Elizabeth grew up in Bay City - so everything about this wedding was a grand celebration in her hometown.

Elizabeth got ready at her parents home.  The home was an old Victorian that was built during the hayday of the mills.  I love all of the photos of her on the wall.

A few getting ready shots...

The one thing that Nick and Elizabeth both wanted from their wedding was a few great shots with their parents.  Here are just a few of my favorites....

The ceremony was at a beautiful historic church.  I loved this shot Matt got of everyone waiting for the ceremony to begin...

Nick before the ceremony.

After the ceremony they threw candy pellets of sorts that looked like rice...I love how Nick is just about to get it in this shot.  True anticipation.

One of my favorite images from the day.

After cruising all around downtown Bay City with the wedding party in a Trolley - we found this old barn en route to the reception.  The barn owner was awesome and very kind to our group!

The theme of the wedding was a "Garden Party".  I absolutely LOVED their cake.  Elizabeth made the caketopper herself - I couldn't believe what an amazing job she did.  The "cake people" were even wearing the same outfits as Nick and Elizabeth!  Both Nick and Elizabeth are in biomedical physics - and super smart.  For favors they gave out coffee mugs that said, "Nerd Love" - so funny!

During the first dance, the sun began to set which gave this beautiful glow to the entire tent.

An awesome party too!!

A closing view...

Nick and Elizabeth - we had a BLAST!  A huge congrats to both of you! Come visit us in Colorado soon!

Much love,

Jenna (and matt!)

ANGELA & ROB'S WEDDING: ST. JOHN, U.S.V.I.
Monday, June 16, 2008

When Angela first told me about the wedding she was planning in the U.S. Virgin Island's St. John - I was near close to giddy. I had spent just a day on the island a year earlier, and saw just enough to know I would need to go back. It's colorful. It's laid-back. The waters are an unidentifiable turquoise. It was no surprise, then, to find absolute beauty in Angela & Rob's island wedding. What I didn't realize going into the weekend, but soon came to love, is just how amazing they would turn out to be and how inviting their entire group would be.

With just 19 guests, the weekend turned into an experience for everyone. I love such intimate weddings...you really get a chance to talk with everyone and learn the stories of how all these people have come together.

Angela and Rob were married at a beach-side ceremony, which was followed by a reception at the private Villa South Palm. Katie & Ellen of Weddings Elegantly Designed did an amazing job planning the event. I was also joined by the very fabulous, Shyla, to shoot with me...and cannot thank her enough!

Without further delay...

Angela's mother-in-law had contemplated not seeing Angela prior to the ceremony - worried she wouldn't be able to keep the tears in.  Turned out, she couldn't.  I can't think of a more genuine expression that says, "Welcome to our family."

Their ceremony was held at Hawksnest Beach - one of St. John's many beautiful bays. The chairs were adorned with ornate paper fans, parasols and flower petals to be tossed after the ceremony.  And of course, shoes not necessary!

Rob with his parents just before heading down the aisle.

Even though Angela & Rob had planned a small wedding, Angela was still set on having that grand aisle to walk down - just as she had envisioned it as a little girl.  So as she strolled down the most amazing stretch of beach, there was no doubt - she GOT her aisle (and one of the most beautiful I have seen!). I love her excitement here...

There is something about her look in this series that is so true to Angela's honesty in expressing her gratitude for finding Rob.

Just after the ceremony...

All 19 guests were able to ride to and from the ceremony together in one of St. John's famous open air taxis. This proves to be a particularly exciting journey on the winding roads of the Virgin Islands!

All of the guests shouting their congratulations from the taxi...could she be much more of a beaming bride?!

We wandered around downtown Cruz Bay for just a few minutes with Angela and Rob. Between roosters wandering the streets to tourists beeping congratulations with their rental cars, it was great to see these two have their moment in the classic ways of St. John. Everyone loved watching them dance in the streets (and we did too!).

Angela & Rob flew in the very-talented Katie & Ellen of Charleston-based Weddings Elegantly Designed to plan and design the event. They are a top-notch crew - not a detail was missed! From the mermaid-like linens to the pool-side floral arrangements, the villa was stunning.  They do book destination weddings (and would love to make their way to Colorado!) so don't be shy to look them up!

First dance. They chose "God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys. Ironically, when Rob's mom was asked what song she'd like to dance to with her son, she had chosen that as her first pick.  Needless to say, she thought it was pretty sweet that the newlyweds chose the song as well.

Speaking of dinner with a view...

Throughout the weekend, we really got to know the guests in their group and all of the relationships between them.  Angela's Mom, time and time again, would say to us how much Angela is a rock in her life - and vice versa. Angela's toast to her Mom was absolutely beautiful - and well, that makes a photographer cry too!

I loved the pool-side lanterns and the ambience of the villa sitting high above Cruz Bay.

This is how most weddings seem to end...

And this is how Angela & Rob's wedding ended!

Congrats you two! We are so grateful to you for inviting us in as part of the group (and an amazing one at that), and in such a beautiful spot. I have no doubt that you will find many adventures to come.  Now - just find a way to work your way to Colorado!

Lots of love,

Katie

LIZ & JOSH's WEDDING
Tuesday, June 10, 2008

Hope everyone's week is off to a great start!  I was going through some images this morning and wanted to share a few from Liz and Josh's wedding this past Memorial Day weekend.  I love this couple.  They are sweet beyond words and have such a great way about them.  They are kind, compassionate and completely devoted to each other.  What's not to love about that!

I completely have a travel bug this week and couldn't help but think that the fields we shot in for Liz and Josh's wedding reminded me of some far, far away land - like Ireland.  I love this time of year because it is so green...however, after a 90 degree day like today - I'm not sure how long Colorado's front range will keep its pretty green!

Congrats Liz and Josh!

Jenna

WATCH COUSIN JESSE ON JAY LENO TONIGHT!
Thursday, June 05, 2008

This is a huge night for the entire Walker family as cousin Jesse makes his debut with their band, the Flobots, TONIGHT!!  (Thurs. June 5) on NBC's Tonight Show with Jay Leno.  Jesse is the bass player for the band and all of these guys have worked so incredibly hard to get to where they are at in their musical careers.   We couldn't be happier for you!

Here are some photos that my husband Matt photographed of the band over the past year...

And of course, one of you Jesse...not only is he an incredible bass player - but it should be noted that this guy can manuever a raft through just about any rapid on a river.

Good luck tonight!!

Jenna

AMANDA & ADAM's WEDDING
Wednesday, June 04, 2008

Over Memorial Day weekend we had the opportunity to shoot Amanda and Adam's wedding in downtown Denver.  I love this couple.  Amanda, a chef, and Adam, a professional musician - are not only amazing creative folk - but SO fun!!  Both of them were so calm on their wedding day and you could just sense their happiness the whole day.  They had their wedding on the grounds of City Park close to sunset with an amazing reception at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.  The night was filled with tons of live music, incredible horn solos and so much more.  We cannot thank you enough Amanda and Adam! You are a blast to be with and I love your passions for life and all the good that comes with it!

Amanda got ready at the Brown Palace in downtown Denver.

Amanda and Adam saw each other prior to their ceremony.  I loved her bouquet.  Delilah's of Denver did the flowers - amazing!

Prior to the ceremony, we headed over to East High School where the two of them graduated high school.  They actually didn't start dating until many years after high school - and Amanda giggled as she told us about how she actually denied Adam to be his date to a high school dance...so funny!

Amanda waiting for the ceremony to start - hiding in the limo.

The details of the event were absolutely incredible.  Heather Allen, event planner extroidinaire of Table 6 Productions, did an amazing job working with Amanda and Adam to pull together an awesome party.  From the logo on the custom dance floor to the smallest details - the Jazz music and Chef themes were carried throughout.

I think the highlight of the evening was when the boys jammed out on the horns. Here are a few shots of Adam playing.  He is simply incredible.

A departing shot of the music and party from the lawn of City Park...

Thanks for a most amazing day Amanda and Adam!  Come home soon!
