To be a part of something…

An entire day dedicated to turkey, good wine and ‘counting your blessings.’ I’d be lying if I told you I wasn’t excited about the first of those three. But in lives busy as the ones most of us lead, it’s easy to forget just how good we have it. There are kitchen timers to be set, checked and re-checked, places to be, tables to be made, new in-laws to impress. And on and on. It’d be easy, on a day like today, to let the music of distraction play loud and clear. But it’s very namesake, tells us otherwise. And so…on this day when, for a moment, a different song plays – we are grateful.

Gratitude is front porch swings. it’s that reminder to sit down and stay awhile. it’s mornings without urgency, guised in too many cups of coffee by the fire. it’s dirt roads. slow down and look at the view. it’s giving back when you can, with what you have. it’s 10 inches of fresh snow by morning and that rainy day with nothing to do. it’s catching the sunrise – its soft glow uninterrupted by the day to come. it’s the letter from a friend mixed in with the rest of the junk mail. it’s the smile in a stranger’s eyes. it’s jumping off the end of the dock and feeling 8 years old all over again. it’s a home-cooked meal and peaches from the garden. it’s the edge of a canyon – and how alive the wide open spaces make you feel. it’s the moment that stops you for awhile and takes you under its wings. but more than all of those things - it’s being a part of something. i guess that’s all any of us ever need – family. friends.

And so today – we’re so grateful to all of you – our family, friends and clients – who remind us what this here livin’ is all about. May you find yourself rich with blessings today. And more than anything, may you find yourself a part of something.

much love!

Katie, Jenna & Matt
