A good friend of mine always defaults to the same, beautiful expression – Plan to be Surprised. As one year ends and another sits patiently on the horizon, it is close to impossible to avoid introspection – on where you’ve been, who you’ve met, the photos you’ve taken, the adventures you’ve created, who you’ve become…and the beautiful surprises wrapped up in it all. This past November, Jenna and I were in Chicago celebrating our sister’s 30th birthday. Out to play tourists, happenstance would have it that right there, a man was proposing to his lovely lady. Happenstance would also have it that we had a camera on us. Boy did that send us into Giggle Cry mode – that unexpected moment of joy that moves you to tears and laughter just the same.

So on the cusp of a new year, plan to be surprised. There’s a good giggle cry just around the corner.

Onward and upward in 2011!
