Emily

8 February 2012

One of the things I love most before a wedding is the calm before everyone arrives.  I love the energy of anticipation and the way a bride or groom often will just find a quiet place as they await the day.  Emily is such a sweet soul.   She is calm by nature – but I loved how she just grasped her tea and watched everyone else hurry around her.   She exuded contentment.  I had a roll of black and white film to finish up – so we took a few simple portraits in a series…this is the way “getting ready” was meant to be for Emily.

And as the day went on – here is just a tiny snippet…

Pat and Emily are so kind and genuine – and of course – they have AMAZING taste in music…

Cheers to a great week!

keepin’ it wonky

18 January 2012

“kill your tv. bake cake. drink tea. play a kazoo. choose handmade. love your town. sing. keep it wonky. barter & swap. write letters. make stuff. champion the underdog. grow your community. love all the people. live your life. be kind.” (aardvark manifesto 2010)

for all that and more, thank you cate & jonas. what makers and doers you are.

The most important thing in life…

22 November 2011

“The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and to let it come in.” – Morrie Schwartz

So is the lesson that becomes quite clear if you spend but a few hours with Kate & Tyler – a couple whose generosity in spirit is rivaled only by their generosity in kindness. On this week that marks gratitude, here’s to celebrating that kind of love – the kind with a limitless capacity to brighten each day.

Kate & Tyler – thank you for showing in both action and in words what good love looks like. You just get it. And that – that’s something worth celebrating.

Here’s to a week of gratitude! And a very Happy Birthday to you, Kate!

much love,

Katie

The thing about weddings…

29 September 2011

The thing about weddings that we love most, the thing that keeps us coming back Saturday after Saturday is the one thing you can’t plan for, can’t buy, can’t find on a list in a bridal magazine. It’s the one thing that no detail lives up to. It’s the one thing that no single blog post can truly reveal. It’s simple. It’s family.

Angelique & Kyle’s wedding was a celebration of that – of the legacies created in a single exchange of rings. What we try to do is at least approximate the honest love that is found in those tiniest moments between mothers and daughters, and fathers and sons, and father’s fathers. The jest of her brother. The giggle cries of his sister. To us, these are the things that matter. After the cake has been cut and the dress put away, what gets remembered are the people who showed up that day. Who reminded you of all that you are, have been and hope to become. As an individual and as the best friend to the forever friend you’ve found in your husband or wife.

Congrats Angelique & Kyle on the adventurous road that awaits – and most importantly – on the new family you’ve formed.

Props to Angie & Pam at Sapphire Celebrations for their tireless spirit and talent, to the Perfect Petal for the ever-stunning floral, and the Broadmoor for playing host to what was one incredible event.

much love!

Even after all this time…

22 September 2011

“Even after all this time,
the sun never says to the earth,
‘You owe me.’
Look what happens with a love like that.
It lights the whole sky.”

Hafiz said it best! Congrats Courtney & Geoff – you sure shine a good light in my book!

Enjoy this beautiful day!
