When Breanna, co-founder of the acclaimed bridal shop, Anna Be, asked me to photograph her wedding – there are no words to describe how honored I was. Bre is an amazing person and her and Ben planned the most simple mountain meadow ceremony above Boulder. Sign me up – faster. On the photography side of things – I was joined by amazing photographers Otto Schulze and James Christianson – and we were simply told to make our art. So much fun to shoot with them…I shot a lot of film at Bre’s wedding…here are just a few of those shots from the day. (Special thanks to Heather at Calluna Events who was, as always, amazing…)

To Bre and Ben, thank you so very much for letting me join you in your day. You inspire people to live a life full of dreams – and to live for the tens. Amen to that.

The quiet of the camera.

You can hear the crickets can’t you? This blog – it’s been a quiet one for quite some time. A quiet blog for a season of life that has been quite the opposite – busy, abundant and blessed. So maybe it takes this rainy day in Denver to bring me back to this site – one that invites the kind of quiet found in coffee mugs and autumn mornings.

We’re sitting here in disbelief that the summer has drawn to a close – - in disbelief that 36 weddings that were once dates on the calendar have come full circle. You could call it a busy summer – one with weddings here, there and everywhere. One with many a kids shoot and personal projects too. Busy, very. But to be honest, our most quiet moments of the summer – the ones the keep us grounded and present – the ones that are reminding of our blessings – are in that busy. Behind my camera, there is a quiet.

This weekend, we will shoot five weddings as a studio – we will work hard. we will multi-task. we will have worn the soles of our shoes a tiny bit more. we will hit ‘refresh’ on weather.com one more time. we will double check our lists.

But, mostly, we will smile knowing we’re lucky to do what we do. We are lucky for the quiet of the camera.

I had never spent time on the Air Force Academy base in Colorado Springs – nor had I had the privilege to be surrounded by so many men & women of honor as I did on March 24. The Captain & Mrs. Julia & Jeff tied the knot at the Air Force Cadet Chapel surrounded by close family and friends, whose service ties to the military run deep. It was a beautiful day to be a part of (and I’d be lying if I didn’t want to bust out in Top Gun theme songs all day long!)

Julia & Jeff – you’re pretty much amazing. I appreciate the sheer joy you seem to always exude and the downright honest kindness you share. Here’s to the ridiculous beauty that awaits your life together!
