Back at it..
Monday, May 24, 2010

Well, we are back and in the full swing of things after adventures and time out of the country - and life is good!   It feels so good to be working again!  As we gear up for the full swing of wedding season, we are so grateful to all of our clients - past and present and can't wait to share all of our adventures with you!!!   Here are just a few of the things we've been up to and you should see launch soon:

A new blog, a new treeSwing web site that is super cool, a women's photography retreat planned for February of 2010 to be announced soon, a new studio space, lots of shoots and more to be announced soon!   We feel energized and excited and full of fresh ideas behind the camera and in our business!

Lots of love!

Jenna

P.S - Our studio has moved!  And we love the new light filled space just a few blocks down from our old one...we'll share pics as soon as we get settled here!

P.S.S - We also planted our first veggie garden yesterday, any dibs on whether I can water it through the whole summer and actually harvest some veggies?  I have a hard time watering house plants, ya know?

P.S.S.S - The photo above is Story sending you some love from our trip to the USVI this past March/April...the full run down coming soon!

Invent your world!

"Invent your world. Surround yourself with people, color, sounds and work that nourish you." - SARK

Here are a few bits of Europe that did just that!

Here's to a GREAT week - slow starts to your mornings, conversations that get you thinking, moments that leave you laughing uncontrollably, rich sunsets, wide open spaces, and good friends.

Be sure to pop on over to Southern Weddings for the beautiful feature they put together from Yvonne & Kevin's Pennsylvania wedding - we love this site! We are also thrilled to work with Style Me Pretty, one of our favorite style blogs - take a peek at their weekend feature of Marissa & Jed's mountain wedding. Both of these sites are pure eye candy and we have so much respect for the work they do!

much love,

Katie

Pay attention to what you are paying attention to.

Pay attention to what your paying attention to.

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about this statement.  How am I spending what little time I do have?   Between Facebook, Twitter and a zillion other iphone apps…there are a lot of days where I zone out and just let things come towards me when it comes to social media.   I have to admit…I like substance.  I like to read things that matter.   While I appreciate someone that can succinctly say something in 140 characters or less on Twitter – I’m just not very good at it.   And while I love the minute by minute updates on Facebook…I find it more important for me to be living my life and being present with all of you I am face to face with.  I just don’t feel as though MY minute by minute is that interesting.  Maybe it is…but I’ve yet to find a way to be very good at that yet either.   But am I the ONLY one?

I’m on a new found old-fashioned kick of finding substance in what I’m paying attention to.   I want to read things longer than 140 characters and I want to be face to face with more than facebook.

So, I thought I’d share a few things I love paying attention to….

If you are a bride there are some tremendous blogs out there that didn't exist when I got married.  Filled with endless ideas...I love Southern Weddings by an incredible friend and editor Lara Casey.  Abbye over at Style Me Pretty is phenomenal and so gifted at bring great ideas to brides.

For you photographers, there is one blog in particular that I would recommend paying attention to…The Business of Being Creative is an amazing business blog for creative individuals written by Sean Low.  Sean is Preston Bailey’s former right-hand man and he has been in creative businesses for quite some time.  His insights are so valuable.

For design folks and everyone with a love for great art and design – I love two blogs…Rifle Design and Design Sponge.

And for every mom photographer out there…no one shares her heart more than Me Ra Koh out of Seattle, Washington.

I would love to know what you are paying attention to!  PLEASE!  As I update my blog reader I would love to add some great reading material and follow the lives of inspiring people.  If you know someone or something inspiring, funny, smart – or just plain entertaining – can you leave your thoughts below?  I’d LOVE to know!

Pay attention to what your paying attention to…

David Bock:Such great little insights and ideas. Always nice to read these kinds of entries to get all inspired. :) Mostly though, I love the title. :D Nice way of thinking about things. (04/06/10, 06:23)
Regina:I´m paying attention! And I´m in that same type of space, slowing things way down, concentrating on the little things, making sure I´m "unplugging" a little every day. Interesting how it requires so much more concentration and intention to move slowly, with thoughtfulness and to simplify. As always, your work & thoughts are an inspiration! xoxo (04/02/10, 01:38)
Stephanie Osborne:I know EXACTLY what you mean about wanting to read something present, with substance that matters. A few of the things I love to pay attention to: Sarah Rhoads´ Blog is always filled with inspirational realism mixed with a little bit of head in the clouds. I too love Lara and find it to be such a treat when she shares herself on her blog. I also enjoy Elizabeth Missina´s Kiss the Groom site, always short sweet and poignant. (03/30/10, 07:41)
Emily @ Southern Weddings:Love that thought -- pay attention to what you´re paying attention to.  So much truth there. Thanks for your sweet words, Jenna!  We think the world of you, too! (03/30/10, 01:21)
Lara:Thank you for the very kind words, Jenna!   (03/26/10, 12:54)
Rosalind :I am inspired by your images and today I am inspired by you tagline ´Pay attention to what your paying attention to. I suspect in all things grammatical that you meant it somewhat more along the lines of be present where you are and with whom you are. I read it more as ´ be aware of what you are paying attention to and is it making your world a better or worse place to live in...´ Probably as I just listened to a lecture about paying attention to what comes out of your moth, what you say, and how you say it. I suppose the tagline for that was ´pay attention to what you say, EVERY word you utter should have meaning.´ imagine that! thanks for your blog (03/26/10, 09:57)

Dear Katie -

So right now I imagine it to be about 2pm in Paris.  A great place for you to be on your birthday...maybe you are by Notre Dame, maybe you are sitting at some cafe with some hot frenchman, or maybe it's margot ;) but either way I hope you are taking it all in!  This is one of those moments in life that you will never forget.  Soak today in and enjoy where you are TODAY in your life and know how much I love you and miss you!

You are such an inspiration to us and every single day I thank my lucky stars to share life and business with you.  You inspire me and push me to want great things for us and others.  You mean the world to us.

So much love and HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

happy happy

Today is the day - we're off and away on our big adventure to the Virgin Islands.   Things are happy around here - less the few last minute freakies of forgetting something and missing everyone we love - BUT nonetheless we are HAPPY!

And speaking of happy...here are a few images on film that make me happy.

And a few inspiring words from none other than the Incomparable Dr. Suess...I love these words -

"Congratulations! Today is your day.  You're off to Great Places!  You're off and away!  You have brains in your head.  You have feet in your shoes.  You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.  You're on your own.  And you know what you know.  And YOU are the guy who'll decide where to go.   You'll look up and down streets.  Look'em over with care.  about some you will say, "I don't choose to go there." With your head full of brains and your shoes full of feet, you're too smart to go down a not-so-good street.  And you may not find any you'll want to go down.  In that case, of course, you'll head straight out of town.  It's opener there in the wide open air.  Out there things can happen and frequently do to people as brainy and footsy as you.  And when thing strat to happen, don't worry.  Don't stew.  Just go right along.  You'll start happening too. "

Oh! The Places You'll Go!

HAPPY day to you!

Jenna

Amberdawn7:These pictures are so sweet.  The children´s joy along with the couples makes them really special.  The colors of the balloons and clothing are lovely with the yellows, greens, and blues of the setting, too.  Very pretty. (03/20/10, 11:32)
