ENGAGED: Nate & Nancy
Monday, April 26, 2010

Spring skiing. It's the Colorado tradition that keeps on, despite front-range temptations for picnics, mountain biking and warm sunny days in the park. I was lucky enough to join Nancy & Nate for their engagement shoot on one of those classic spring skiing days. Blue skies. Slushy snow. And a whole lotta frolicking. Nate & Nancy, however, have a tradition of their own that will always keep Breckenridge ski resort near and dear to their heart: Nate proposed on top of the mountain.

We had a blast returning to their celebrated stomping grounds. There was no shortage of fun...or formal wear for that matter. We met that morning at the gondola. Fully expecting them to arrive in their ski garb, I was delightfully surprised by their choice to 'keep it classy' on the mountain. Think James Bond meets Dior. Now that is something I'll aspire to next time I set out for the mountain!

Nate & Nancy are getting married this January in Houston. Here's a lil' tale from the day...

Nate & Nancy - Congrats on the road ahead! And THANK YOU for making our jobs so much fun.

Now on to those warm sunny days in the park that we had been delaying...goodbye snow!

rainy day love

Rain, rain go away - don't come back another day (you've been here for 5 days now and definitely outstayed your welcome in my humble opinion).

Invent your world!
Monday, April 12, 2010

"Invent your world. Surround yourself with people, color, sounds and work that nourish you." - SARK

Here are a few bits of Europe that did just that!

Here's to a GREAT week - slow starts to your mornings, conversations that get you thinking, moments that leave you laughing uncontrollably, rich sunsets, wide open spaces, and good friends.

Be sure to pop on over to Southern Weddings for the beautiful feature they put together from Yvonne & Kevin's Pennsylvania wedding - we love this site! We are also thrilled to work with Style Me Pretty, one of our favorite style blogs - take a peek at their weekend feature of Marissa & Jed's mountain wedding. Both of these sites are pure eye candy and we have so much respect for the work they do!

much love,

Katie

MTV Cribs
Thursday, April 08, 2010

I got a fun email from an amazing bride-to-be Britany that she was watching MTV the other night when MTV Crib's Pro Basketball Edition came on and she saw OUR photos all over the home of Carmelo Anthony & LaLa Vasquez's AMAZING home. They did an incredible 6 foot family photo above their fireplace that is one of my favorite pieces we placed in a client's home to date.  And then the gallery wraps are all over and so fun too.   They truly are amazing genuine people - and fun too!

To see this edition of MTV Cribs, click here!

This may be the closest we'll ever get to being on MTV seeing my COMPLETE lack of musical abilities! Happy Day!

Anticipation
Tuesday, April 06, 2010

I think anticipation is one of the best things to photograph.  Whether it be a bride getting ready to walk down the aisle, guests waiting, toasts beginning, the moment before a big exit...there is just something about anticipation.  Maybe its the way people hold their breath just a touch longer than normal,  maybe its the nervous hands, maybe its the quiet of it all...the expectations.

I love the challenge of photographing those moments.  The focus of watching others when they are waiting to watch the big moment.  I love feeling as though I've disappeared completely from our clients and they just are.  They can BE. They don't worry about the photos.  They don't worry about me being in the way...or even being there for that matter...they've forgot about me.   This is how we capture best.

Getting ready before the ceremony is one of my very favorite parts of the day.  Often overlooked as an emotional part of the wedding - it is definitely something I recommend and protect time for when photographing all of our couples.  I wanted to give you a slice of time from Nicole and Dan's wedding...all of these images are from about a 10 minute span at their wedding when Nicole was ready to slip into her dress...and well,  the anticipation of it all.

And my very favorite...her best friend's hand shows it all.

Gosh Nicole - you were such an amazing beautiful bride - I feel so fortunate to know you!

Much love,
Jenna
